The Alameda CBID and BID - 2 Distinct Programs
THE ALAMEDA COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT PASSED
In June, landowners in The Alameda District voted to form the first Community Benefit Improvement District (TACBID) in San José in over 15 years. Read more about this historic moment on ABC 7 News. TACBID is funded by landowners and will provide clean, safe, and beautification services to the properties in the CBID boundaries for the next 15 years, forging a path towards a more economically vibrant district.
The ABA is in the process of finalizing a public/private contract with the City of San José, so the ABA can manage the district. We look forward to big changes in 2026.
THE ALAMEDA BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT GOES TO CITY COUNCIL DECEMBER 16, 2025
The ABA is now moving forward with the creation of a Business Improvement District (BID) for the entire The ABA Boundaries area to fund ongoing district marketing, community events, and beautification projects. Please reach out if you have questions, comments, or would like to discuss the district. We are happy to meet.
A BID is a tool that allows businesses to invest together in district marketing, events, and beautification that benefit the whole district and help everyone thrive.
What Is a Business Improvement District?
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined area where businesses choose to pool resources to keep their district vibrant and welcoming.
If a BID is formed, participating businesses will pay an annual assessment that stays in the district. The BID will fund services that directly benefit all assessed businesses by strengthening The Alameda District’s reputation as a vibrant, welcoming district, which could include, but not be limited to:
District Promotion - Unified branding, public awareness campaigns, website updates, and social media highlighting The Alameda District as a destination.
Events and Activations – seasonal markets, district-wide celebrations, and wine walks that draw visitors and encourage repeat foot traffic.
Beautification and Decoration – Banners, planters, holiday décor, and wayfinding to reinforce the district’s visual identity.
Business Support – Merchant mixers, informational workshops, and shared resources to help all businesses participate in district activities.
The BID is created by local businesses and operated by the Board of Directors. The cost per business is $350/year, with reduced rates available to qualifying solo artists, home-based businesses with no employees, nonprofits, and ride-share operators. The assessment will be included on the annual business tax of businesses within the BID Boundaries.
This proposed BID is separate and distinct from The Alameda Community Benefit Improvement District (TACBID), which is funded by landowners and focuses primarily on cleanliness, safety, and beautification.
The TACBID and BID numbers shown above are approximate budgets
